A Weekend in NYC

A Weekend in NYC

It all began with my Southwest Airlines flight attendant singing "New York, New York" on our descent into LaGuardia. While I've been to the big apple on several occasions, it was my first time going to visit my sister since she had moved to NYC. Which meant it was also the first time I went to NY and didn't have the "tourist" experience. (Sorry, midtown!)

My sister and her boyfriend did such an amazing job taking me around the city and showing me the local life (of course, also doing a few tourist-y things...remember I am indeed a midwest girl!). Here's a rundown of our activities and favorite spots.

Friday/Saturday

New York is truly a place of its own. There's not anything quite like it, which is why I spent the entire commute from LaGuardia to my sister's apartment taking in the view (and yes, that includes the millions of pigeons). It surprises me every time just how many people are in NYC!

Since I arrived in the evening, the only "activity" we did was getting our nails done. My sister took me to a super local manicure place, Buddha Nails, where we picked our favorite fall nail colors. My color (the bottom hand in the picture below) is Essie's 'In Stiches' and my sister's color (top hand) is Essie's Twin Sweater Set. How cute!!

On Saturday, we had a busy day of plans. We started the day early and headed to Fairfield University in Fairfield, CT to go see our sweet cousin, Francesca, get her white coat for nursing school! Our family is all over the country, so it's special when we get to support each other in person. I was so excited to be there and, photographed below, is the moment it really hit me that she's going to be a real nurse saving lives! Also, how cute is her stethoscope, it's raspberry colored! After the ceremony, we went to lunch at this super cute place called Rive Bistro. I caved and got the cheeseburger (with Brie cheese!). I highly recommend this place!

As for my outfit, the changing weather required something that wouldn't make me too hot or cold (the struggle is real!). I opted for a Banana Republic tunic sweater, black leggings from Artizia, and my favorite OTK Boots from Vince Camuto. The tunic is one of my favorite pieces because it's sleeveless! You can wear it as one layer, or wear a long sleeve tee underneath for some extra warmth. Earrings are Kendra Scott, and the necklace was given as a gift to my sister!

When we got back to the city, we did a little shopping and then grabbed a late bite to eat with my sister and her boyfriend. We went to a cute Italian restaurant called Frank's and we ate some amazing pasta! I also sported this cute new fall hat from Gap!

Sunday

After a fun night sipping wine and feeling fine, we started off our day with a brunch at Ruby's NYC. I'll let the photos do the talking, but I will say this: I highly recommend this place! This Aussie cafe was #foodgoals (especially with their Ricotta Hot Cakes).

It was important that we fueled up because we had matinee tickets to see WICKED! This has always been a lifelong dream for my sister and I and I'm still in shock that it came true. We cried after Defying Gravity and For Good...and then again at curtain call. Elphaba and Glinda will always have a special place in my heart. Next time you're in NYC...go see this musical!

All in all, I had a great time in NYC. It's so nice to have family in exciting places! My boyfriend has never been to NYC, so we'll definitely be back to show him around in the new year!
